I KNOW IT'S NOT SO

About Patricia Evans' poetry

"Although I have spent time with Patrícia Evans on three separate occasions, I feel I know Patrícia Evans only through her poetry. She hides nothing, she surrenders everything. It is some of the most powerful poetry I have ever read. And I have read only English translations of her poems, so those who read her in her native Portuguese will experience her even more intimately. They should prepare themselves for imagery, anger, compassion, despair, humor, insight, knowledge of her self and the deepest love for those she loves, especially dad."

ASSASSINA / MURDERER

.
ASSASSINA

Arrancarei as tuas tripas desnecessárias

desespera, assassina e chora.

MURDERER
( © Patrícia Evans)

I'll wring your fingers one by one until they break
and crush your skull against the wall,
tear your unnecessary guts,
and let you, in front of the glass of water, die of thirst.

I'll step on your inert body on the floor
and spit oxidant saliva on your remains.
I'll boil your heart in cooking oil
and dance a mad polka on you.

I will nourish the worms with your meat.
I'll grow fat the centipedes with your death,
bleed your veins, cut you into pieces
and leave thee to thy fate, abandoned.

And because I'll kill you
one thousand times, in one million ways,
may be I come to get to kill you in my chest,
Where lies a heart which, for denied and undone love,

desperates, murders and cries.
