I KNOW IT'S NOT SO

About Patricia Evans' poetry

"Although I have spent time with Patrícia Evans on three separate occasions, I feel I know Patrícia Evans only through her poetry. She hides nothing, she surrenders everything. It is some of the most powerful poetry I have ever read. And I have read only English translations of her poems, so those who read her in her native Portuguese will experience her even more intimately. They should prepare themselves for imagery, anger, compassion, despair, humor, insight, knowledge of her self and the deepest love for those she loves, especially dad."

CURE

CURE

.
You sent me a prayer,
a sweet poem,
and told me a joke
when I yelled at you.
You took me for a walk,
held my hand,
talked when I was silent,
shook me when I was quiet,
even though I had asked you,
I had begged you
to leave me alone.
You watched me crying,
losing my control,
thinking about giving up,
and patiently you tried to comfort me
showing we could handle this.
You sent me flowers,
and I sent you to hell.
You wrote me letters,
I never responded.
There wasn't one single day
when I wanted you to go away
that you didn't stay around.
I hated you that you weren't me,
I hated you for being happy,
I hated you for understanding,
and when I hated you most
you just loved me best.
