JÁ O FEZ ANTES
( © Patrícia Evans)
A águia pousa cansada
no cume do agora morro, quase monte;
uma montanha quando o fez antes.
Começa a bater o bico na rocha, hoje mole;
inquebrantável quando o fez antes.
Brava e dolorosamente ela o arranca.
Já o fez antes;
com o novo bico arrancou as unhas,
com as novas unhas, as velhas penas.
Vale o esforço e a vontade,
a dor, pensa, será mais simples,
já o fez antes.
(...)
Pobre ave,
tudo será mais difícil.
Existem segundas chances
mas não hão terceiros bicos.

. HAS DONE IT BEFORE
(© Patricia Evans)
The eagle lands, tired, on the crest
of what is only a hill, now,
a mountain, when she did it, at first.
She starts to hit the tip of the rock, now soft;
unyielding, when she did it, before.
Bravely and painfully she starts.
She's done it, before;
with the new beak, pulled the talons,
with the new talons, the old feathers.
It is worth the effort and the will,
the pain, she thinks, will be easier, now,
for she has done it before.
(…)
Poor bird,
it will be harder.
There are second chances
but there are not third beaks.

Thank you, Danette Johnson for the English corrections! :)

Luiz com Z disse...
I'm awfully sorry to bother
This eagle pecking the peak
But were it from Warner Brothers
It would have as many a beak
As it wished, for if it were toony
Things woukd always get so much looney
It would be for life a glad freak.
