I KNOW IT'S NOT SO

About Patricia Evans' poetry

"Although I have spent time with Patrícia Evans on three separate occasions, I feel I know Patrícia Evans only through her poetry. She hides nothing, she surrenders everything. It is some of the most powerful poetry I have ever read. And I have read only English translations of her poems, so those who read her in her native Portuguese will experience her even more intimately. They should prepare themselves for imagery, anger, compassion, despair, humor, insight, knowledge of her self and the deepest love for those she loves, especially dad."

I BLAME THE WORLD FOR MY EMPTINESS

I BLAME THE WORLD FOR MY EMPTINESS

(Patrícia Evans)

I called you Idiot that you didn't notice me

I said Go To Hell that you didn't want to know me

I thought Screw You that you didn't feel intrigued

not even curious

amazed

moved

touched

you were as stupid as I was once

when I still tried to catch your attention

when I used to try to tell you about my existence

when I thought we could exchange

the much I believed we had to

I shouted Fuck You that you didn't give a shit.

It should hurt... shouldn't it?

It doesn't.

What really kills me

is this silence full of echoes

that was brought back to me

when I stopped caring.
